Avery to Europe

How would I feel if super pest himself came running to Europe? The answer to that question is…I would certainly be fascinated to see that play out. With the sticky mess that he’s got himself into, and the equally sticky scenario the Stars find themselves in I think this would be an option to look at!

I’ll be honest with you, when all this kicked off I certainly did not burn my bra and want to hunt Avery down like the pig that he is…it just didn’t bother me that much. He’s a role player, pure and simple and I, and most other people thoroughly understand the role he plays in the sport. Did he cross the line in terms of media etiquette…absolutely! Did the ‘sloppy seconds’ remark get everyone hockey fans knickers in a twist…probably not!

So as he clears waivers I have an answer for you Mr Avery and Mr Jackson! I’m not altogether au fait with the rulebook on this situation so let’s throw it to the side and just live in fantasy land for a few minutes! Forget the Wolf Pack, come play with us over the pond in the EIHL…we got to take what we can get!

I’m thinking the Sheffield Steelers, they’re doing soooooo well but this could help catapult ice hockey UK-side into unknown territory! Still asking why….

1. You would most certainly be a superstar! On the front of the papers, tv…the whole lot. For a narcissistic media @%, it would be a delicious experience!

2. The chance…wait for it…to play with the brother of a Stanley Cup winner! WOW! I bet you are salivating just thinking about this one… it’s none other than powerplay extraordinaire Roddy Sarich!

3. It would give you a good chance to practice dropping your gloves, you might learn something if you were up against the likes of Clouthier!

4. No-one would give a damn what you said here, the media would in fact lap it up. Let’s face it we see much more hideous behaviour come from football (soccer) player’s week in, week out!

5. Fleury had a bash…why not give it a try?

6. You’re sure to make a lifetime friend in Bettman who would surely put you on his Xmas card list for facilitating in his master plan to bring NHL domination to Europe.

7. Who wouldn’t want to live in a steel city?

8. The lure of the best coach around (well in england anyway)in Matsos, 2008 Coach/Manager of the Year Award at The Star and St John Sports Awards.

9. Re-entry into the NHL would certainly be suicide, someone eventually is gonna jump ya and it ain’t gonna be pretty!

10. Cruikshank + Avery = Flatten opposition

Am I delusional from the cold Siberian air? Yes, quite possibly! Will I continue to daydream of the possibility…absolutely! Do the Steelers need Avery…no!

This is, of course, only a little fun although it might spur you on to maybe look into the EIHL, and see what we offer here on our island! The Pens may be flagging but I still hold on to the Steelers who are at the top of the league and 11 points clear of the opposition, there’s always something to remain hockey-positive about!
